Arlington Ranked No.5 Nationally In Bike Friendliness Ratings

Arlington County was ranked No. 5 nationally for the best urban area to bicycle in a newly-released bike friendliness rating. In the rankings compiled by Colorado-based PeopleForBikes, the County even surpassed Washington DC which ranked No.15. Colorado was No.1. Old Town "Arlington achieved this ranking partly due to a strong safety record," said spokesman Alex Showerman. According to the organization, Arlington ranked first in the U.S. for bicycle safety. To rank each location, PeopleForBikes used data in five categories: ridership, safety, network, acceleration and reach. They studied cities nationwide partly using the data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System and the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.
Arlington County recently updated its bike master plan for future cycling infrastructure after advocates shared the need for more safe routes.
