Reasons Why Countertops, Flooring, And Lighting Costs Are Rising In Arlington

You will have to dig a little deeper in your pocket if you want to spruce up your home in Arlington. This is because of the new tariffs on Chinese goods which will add $2.5 billion in added cost to the home remodeling industry. Needless to say, that extra cost will be passed on to you as a customer in Arlington.

Builders say that the tariff costs on Chinese imports which jumped up from 10% to 25% on May 10, will increase the cost of about 450 goods used by the home building industry in Arlington. The most affected goods include countertops, like granite, marble, and quartz, tile for bathrooms and backsplashes, light fixtures, cabinets, heating, and cooling equipment, and flooring. Last year, China was the largest trading partner of the United States but after a two-days trade talk between the Chinese and U.S officials that ended on Friday without a deal, the White House has increased tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports, including $10 billion of goods used by the homebuilding industry in Arlington. A survey conducted last week by the National Association of Home Builders also showed that there was a labor shortage which continues to impact housing projects by increasing prices and delaying timetables. Remodeling jobs that involve carpenters, framing crews, bricklayers, and electricians are seeing some of the largest shortages in Arlington. More than half of the remodelers surveyed reported that the top effect of the labor shortage has been higher wages and subcontractor bids, higher prices for customers, and difficulty completing projects on time which has even forced some to turn down some projects.
