Exploring Frying Pan Farm Park

Animals At Frying Pan Farm Park
Frying Pan Farm Park is a park located at 2709 West Ox Road Herndon in Fairfax County. Frying Pan Farm Park offers a variety of attractions of both a historic and recreational nature. The park contains the Frying Pan Meetinghouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and dating from the 18th century, and the Old Floris Schoolhouse, constructed in 1911. One of the attractions of the park is Kidwell Farm, a working demonstration farm. It recreates a 1930s farm and still has many animals including cows and horses. Frying Pan Farm Park hosts many equestrian events throughout the year at the Activities Center, featuring an indoor riding arena and two outside rings, and has a 4-H club. For many years turkeys pardoned in the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation were sent to live at Frying Pan Farm Park Frying Pan Park preserves a reminder of Fairfax County's rural heritage from 1920 to 1940 at Kidwell Farm. Visitors can see or pet draft horses, pigs, goats, cows, sheep, rabbits, chickens, and peacocks. The four-room schoolhouse built in 1911 is a hub of arts and crafts, fitness, children's classes, and summer camp programs. The Moffett Blacksmith Shop contains the smithy's original equipment. The Country Store housed a shop and classroom for vocational agriculture from 1919 to about 1930. The Frying Pan Spring Meeting House was built in 1791 and is designated a "Virginia Landmark." If success is measured by the number of people who visit this park, then Frying Pan Park is very successful. Little children love animals, especially newborn lambs, goats, and pigs in spring.
Carousel At Frying Pan Farm Park
The 1920s Hirschhorn carousel at Frying Pan Farm Park underwent an extensive restoration during the winter and spring of 2018 so it can keep turning round and round for many years to come. It is now up and running. Frying Pan's playground is located near the carousel and the General Store. The slides and the climbing apparatus provide a great time for the kids, and there are benches nearby for parents and guardians.
