- Choose a pre-cut tree that has green needles that do not fall off when touched
- Keep tree away from heat sources like fireplace or vent
- Water pre-cut tree daily

As the season for Christmas Trees and decorations begins, residents need to take precautions and avoid fire risks that's associated with the festivities of the season. The National Fire Protection Association has stated that Christmas tree fires has sparked 160 homes fires over a four year period and 44 percent of those fires was caused by electrical problems. As such residents of Alexandria are advised to take these safety measures when hanging decorations and/or putting up their Christmas Tree.
