The National Women's History Museum which was founded in 1996 is an organization that researches, collects and exhibits the contributions of women to the social, cultural, economic and political life of the nation in the context of world history.
The Museum, which operates as the largest online cultural institution with a physical building proposed for the future, provides online exhibits, educational programs and outreach efforts which illustrate and highlight women's experiences and accomplishments in the history of the nation and the City of Alexandria. The museum which was founded by Karen Staser states that "the mission of the museum is to tell the stories of women who transformed the nation through a state of the art online presence and a future physical museum to educate, inspire, empower, shape the future and provide a complete view of American history". The physical location of the museum will be in Washington D.C.
