The Alexandria City Council has voted for a real estate tax rate increase to $1.155 per $100 of assessed value from the current $1.13 which would represent an increase of 2.5 cent. City Manager Mark Jinks had proposed that the tax rate be increased to $1.15 per cent per $100 of assessed value or a 2 cent increase. The 2 cent tax increase would go towards school and city capital projects. Property assessments will continue to increase without a tax increase as data shows a 4.15 percent increase from 2019 to 2020 and an increase of 2.71 percent from 2018 to 2019.
City council on April 29 will make a vote on whether they will keep the current tax rate or adopt the new rate of $1.155 per $100 of assessed value.
