Floral Grandeur at Bon Air Memorial Rose GardenBon Air Park is an expansive 24-acre park located at 850 N Lexington St, Arlington, VA 22205, USA. It features a beautiful memorial rose garden that is often a chosen location for weddings.
This memorial rose garden was started by Nellie Broyhill back in 1939. She started the Arlington Rose Foundation with the purpose of planting a memorial garden at the forthcoming Arlington hospital (now Virginia Hospital Center). The garden was meant to honor local war veterans who fought in the World War 11.
Bon Air Memorial Rose Garden has a spectacular range of different kinds of roses that are neatly arranged and interspersed with walking paths, wooden park benches, and small arched gazebos. The Arlington Rose Foundation now serves as partner to advise on and help promote planting in the garden. Nellie’s bench, dedicated in 1968, sits west of a stone plaque honoring the 841 Arlingtonians who were involved in the war effort.
Bon Air Park also has playgrounds, basketball courts, and picnic areas with charcoal grills. It’s also on a bike path that connects directly to both the Custis Trail, which runs alongside the 66 freeway towards DC, and Four Mile Run/W&OD Trail, which comes out down at the George Washington Parkway next to Reagan National Airport.
The roses at the garden are expected to bloom through mid-October.
