"Arlington achieved this ranking partly due to a strong safety record," said spokesman Alex Showerman. According to the organization, Arlington ranked first in the U.S. for bicycle safety.
To rank each location, PeopleForBikes used data in five categories: ridership, safety, network, acceleration and reach.
They studied cities nationwide partly using the data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System and the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.
Arlington County recently updated its bike master plan for future cycling infrastructure after advocates shared the need for more safe routes.
