The U.S Air Force Memorial honors the service and heritage of millions of men and women who have served in the U.S. Air Force.
Air Force Memorial
The inspiring memorial, which was officially dedicated on October 14, 2006, lies in a prime location in Arlington, Virginia. It is located adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery and overlooks The Pentagon, the Potomac River, and Washington, D.C.
The Air Force Memorial features three stainless steel spires that soar 270 feet high (402 feet above sea level). The arching design represents contrails of the Air Force Thunderbirds as they disperse in a "bomb burst" maneuver. The U.S. Air Force "star" is embedded in granite beneath the spires.
The memorial also has a paved Runway to Glory at the entrance, an 8-foot-tall bronze Honor Guard statue, two granite inscription walls, and a Glass Contemplation Wall allocated for visitors to pay tribute to the fallen Air Force service members.
The Memorial hosts more than 250 activities each year including military retirement, promotion and re-enlistment ceremonies, Honor Flight and student tours, wreath-laying ceremonies, Memorial Day, POW/MIA Day Recognition Day and Veterans Day programs and other special events.
The Air Force Memorial is open to the public, and admission and parking are free.
