The Alexandria Union Station is a historic railroad station located on Callahan Drive in Old Town Alexandria. The station was opened in 1905 and is directly adjacent to the King Street Metro Station and faces the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. The station, which was designed in a Colonial Revival Style Architecture still remains a historic feature in Alexandria. The story station features two building, a passenger depot and a baggage building. In 1942 a stone and concrete Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial was erected on the lawn in front of the station. The station is registered on the National Register of Historic Places. The Alexandria Union Station which is managed by the City of Alexandria serves both Virginia Railway Express (VRE) and Amtrak trains.
