Maury Park has two tennis courts and an interactive play structure, Spielschieff, which means "play ship" in German. Developed by German Sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg, the Spielschiff allows children to imagine commanding a magical vessel either from the lower level’s revolving hull or in the crow’s nest which is equipped with kaleidoscopes and weather vanes. It is a very creative piece that kids can really enjoy.
Stirnberg created the first Spielschiff in 1979 in Aachen, Germany and in 2007, he recast it with original mold to produce an identical piece for Arlington, Aachen's sister city. It is made of bronze and stainless steel with parts that can be repositioned, swiveled, peered through and explored. The surface is soft rubber and the installation is only partially fenced.
Maury Park is open from sunrise to sunset.
