Alexandria City Schools To Close Amid Coronavirus Concerns

All public schools in Alexandria will be closed for one month following concerns about the coronavirus in the City. The schools will be closed on Monday March 16 through to April 13, 2020. The food services will make arrangements for students to receive meals while schools remain closed. A webinar was held on March 12 2020 by Superintendent Gregory Hutchings  to discuss the closure of schools. Superintendent Hutchings said the city was working closely with the Alexandria Health Department to ensure the safety of the students. Students and community members associated with T.C. Williams Minnie Howard campus, Charles Barrett Elementary School, Ferdinand T Day Elementary School, Cora Kelley School and Jefferson Houston are asked to self monitor themselves for symptoms. Parents are encouraged to teach these kids about the virus and how to take preventive measures as to reduce their risk of infection and to help reduce their fear of the virus.
