Special Grocery Shopping Hours Slated For Seniors In Alexandria

Seniors and other vulnerable residents who are prone to severe effects of COVID-19 will have their own shopping hours across several grocery stores in Alexandria. Starting March 31 2020, grocery stores will implement a special senior shopping hours which would allow seniors, expectant mothers and immuno-comprised customers to do their shopping without exposure to other residents. These grocery stores and their hours are as follows:
  • The Fresh Market on King Street - daily from 8 to 9 am (seniors)
  • Giant Food on Duke Street and E Glebe Street - daily from 6 to 7 am (seniors)
  • Harris Teeter on N. St Asaph St and Duke St - Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 am (seniors)
  • Safeway on King Street, S. Royal St and S. Van Dorn St - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 am (seniors, expectant mothers and immuno-comprised customers)
  • Trader Joe's on N St Asaph St - daily from 8 to 9 am (seniors and the disabled)
  • Whole Foods Market on Duke Street - daily from 7 to 8 am (seniors)
Residents can also choose delivery or curb side pick up options for these groceries.
