Thinking of learning how to swim? Arlington County offers swimming classes at each of the three Arlington Public School pools during the afternoon, evening, and weekend. The classes, which are part of the Arlington County Aquatics Programs, include parent and child classes, toddler, youth, teen and adult lessons, and adapted classes.
Here are the three Aquatics Centers in Arlington where you can learn to swim.
Wakefield Aquatics Center--1325 S Dinwiddie St,
This indoor facility includes two swimming pools, a wet classroom, and a large capacity spectator gallery. The pools provide space for APS athletic events, such as middle school, and high school swim & dive practices and meets. Learn-to-swim and water exercise classes are also offered through the Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation. The facility can also be rented for private events such as birthday parties and club practices (e.g. swim/dive/water polo).
Washington-Liberty Aquatics Center--1301 N. Stafford Street
This facility contains a spacious 25-meter competition pool with a diving area as well as a separate instructional pool for lessons. There's also a wet classroom and a spectator area with capacity for 175 spectators overlooking the pools. The locker rooms have individual shower stalls and there are four family changing areas, two of which are fully equipped and handicap accessible, and one containing an adult size changing table and shower.
Yorktown Aquatics Center--5200 Yorktown Blvd.
This state-of-the-art indoor facility houses two multipurpose swimming pools to accommodate any need. In addition to learn-to-swim classes offered by Arlington's Department of Parks and Recreation, the facility also has public swim hours, and hosts APS athletic events such as middles and high school swim/dive practices and meets.
