The Army Corps of Engineers continues to oversee work on the new hospital at Fort Belvoir's the Main Post. The hospital plans to be a state-of-the-art 1.3 million square foot facility that will serve the National Capital Area's military medical needs for many years to come. The hospital complex is now about half finished and delivery dates is planned for Spring 2011.

The Old Town Theatre serves up arty, independent and off-beat cinema as well as blockbuster hits in Old Town. The Old Town Theatre has great ambiance and is in a niche of area theatres that sells alcoholic beverages, similar to the Arlington Draft House.

Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them.

Nissan Pavilion
Nissan Pavilion at Stone Ridge is an outdoor live performance amphitheatre with a 25,000 fan capacity, the largest in the Washington Metropolitan area. The Pavilion is located in semi-rural Prince William County which is approximately 35 miles west of our neighborhood.
Kennedy Center
The Kennedy Center, located on 17 acres overlooking the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., is America's living memorial to President Kennedy as well as the nation's busiest arts facility, presenting more than 3,000 performances each year. Touring Kennedy Center productions and its television, radio, and Internet broadcasts reach millions around the world. As part of the Kennedy Center's Performing Arts for Everyone outreach program, hundreds of free performances are offered each year featuring national and local artists; these include early-evening concerts on the Millennium Stage, dozens of performances during the annual Open House Arts Festival, and daily concerts of seasonal music in December as part of Holidays at the Kennedy Center. Located on Wolfe Street, the Little Theatre of Alexandria has year round productions. There holiday performances are fitting of the season. Plays here are well attended with some selling out weeks in advance. This Theatre is in the City of Alexandria and close to the luxuries of Old Town.

Cherry Blossom: On the water with a Victorian-style paddle wheeler. Departs from Alexandria Marina. Marinate on the open air third deck or if the weather beckons, try the interior mahogany woodworked salons. This party boat travels inside the 400 miles of Potomac River.

Old Town is home to restaurants, nightlife, jobs, entertainment, arts and crafts, etc. Even on a winter day in the end of January it can be pleasant to people watch and see what is going on during an afternoon lunch break. Historically, Old Town is a diverse and unique city that is close to Del Ray, Fairfax County, Crystal City, and Arlington. Old Town has a waterfront that is the Potomac River.

Clock Tower Plaza
The Clock Tower Plaza in Herndon, Va, and the area of apartments around it is great community to be a part of. It is right off of Centerville Rd. and you can see the Clock Tower from the many surrounding homes. In the plaza itself there is a wide range of goods and services. From the one of a kind pizzeria, Rubinos, to a tailors shop for clothes and shoes. There really is every kind of store that you can think of there. I myself can walk from my home to the Shopper's Warehouse and back in a matter of five minutes. There is a great place to go play pool, right above a Gold's gym. There are fast food and dine in restaurants, an auto service station, a gas station, and a good variety of small independently owned businesses.
The community around the Plaza is a great place to live. There are many apartments and town houses centered around the plaza and Mcnair Elementary School. The people in the community are very diverse and there are many families with children. It is a great place for a child to grow up and make good lasting relationships. If there were three words I would use to describe the area, I would say convenient, diverse, and friendly.

I like walkable communities because fitness can be conducted while doing an errand. Additionally, walking can make a small cut back on gas expenses for short trips. Walking is nice for enjoying the seasonal weather, such as a chilly winter day. Walkable communities are nice for some animals, such as dogs.
Walkable community factors can include proximity to shopping, dining, parks, trails, and other amenities. An example of a walkable condominium community in Arlington would be Turnberry Tower, which is a luxury highrise in Rosslyn. Turnberry Tower is walkable to a gym, a church, a metro, etc. Walking can be pleasant to enjoy going from one place to the next before returning from whence one came.

A bus on a cold day
Porto Vecchio is commuter friendly. There is a metro bus stop just steps from the entrance. Commuting in Old Town is also convenient to the King St. Metro, which is on the blue and yellow line. Additionally, studies have shown that homes near public transportation retain their value better then those not near public transportation.

The Mount Vernon trail is a paved passage with some different parts, including wooded overlooks, up and down hills, and above water straight shot path. This amenity has various activity spots abound, throughout the extensive spread of landscapes. In the colder season there may be less fishing done and less retention of fitness participating humans and dogs. For example, in the featured image, there are a dog and woman jogging along the Mount Vernon Trail amenity.
With the busy busy busy way of life in Alexandria, Virginia (though Old Town's City of Alexandria is separate from Fairfax County's Alexandria), the Mount Vernon Trail is a nice place to take a break from it all. However that does not mean the rest of the world stops. For example, along a 30 minute hiatus walk, you might see a helicopter over head, or one of the regular from or going to Ronald Reagan planes on their way.
There are many homes available near this amenity, ranging from different features including water oriented, street accessible, with a shopping center in the subdivision, with a view, etc. The Mount Vernon Trail runs parallel to the George Washington Parkway which runs parallel to the Potomac River.
