The Twig's 78th Historic Annual Alexandria Homes Tour will take place on September 28th from 10 am to 3 pm in Old Town Alexandria. The walking tour will feature several of Alexandria's finest 18th and early 19th century homes located in Old Town. Patrons will learn the historic pasts of these homes and learn more about the community and its evolution as a vibrant, livable community. Enjoy Fall On The Waterfront At Portside In Old Town Fall Festival

The City of Alexandria comes alive this fall with the annual Portside in Old Town Fall Festival to be held at Waterfront Park in Old Town Alexandria. The event will be held on October 12 from 1 to 7 pm. Patrons at the event will be treated to a day of live music, maritime history, live demonstrations and activities for the kids.  The Alexandria Seaport Foundation Apprentices will demonstrate boat building techniques and knot tying skills from the Providence. Patrons can also explore the history of Portside from the Office of Historic Alexandria which shows the archaeological findings of 18th century ships which were uncovered along the waterfront. Local food, beer and wine will be on sale from local vendors. Visit Founders Park In Old Town Alexandria

Founders Park is a peaceful riverside park located in Old Town Alexandria. The park was once called West Point in the early 1700s and was the first settlement site for the Europeans in Alexandria. The site was once used an industrial area for the building of a warehouse before becoming a storage area for tobacco, a landing point for African slaves and a fish town. The site was then considered for the development of a townhouse complex which was never developed due to residents of the other surrounding neighborhood wanting to convert the site into a public park. The City of Alexandria, Virginia American Water and Alexandria Renew Enterprises  - Alexandria's three water system partners will be hosting the third Annual Water Discover Day on September 14 at Four Mile Run Park in Alexandria. The American Horticultural Society will be hosting its 26th Annual Gala on September 21st at its River Farm headquarters 7931 E Boulevard in Alexandria.  This year's annual event themed a "Harvest of Health and Happiness" will feature a cocktail reception, live music, silent and online auctions and a three course complemented with live music. Participants at the event will celebrate the work of the society and its impact on million of lives for more than 95 years. The American Horticultural Society spearheaded by Kristen Coffield is a non profit organization which raises the awareness about the vital connection between people and plants and inspires communities to responsible caretakers of the earth.
