104th Annual McLean Day Celebrated With About 10,000 People Attending

The 104th annual McLean Day was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Lewinsville Park in McLean. About 10,000 people attended the annual community get together.  Large carnival rides were provided by Reithoffer Shows on Friday and Saturday which were the main attraction to the festival. 101 vendors and crafters, and 11 food trucks participated in the festival along with the McLean Rotary Club. The Joy of Dance and Big Bang Boom performed on the main stage. The Teen Character Awards were also presented by the McLean Citizens Association at the event. The elections and voting for the MCC Governing Board were also held at the festival. The field games played by the children included Bubble Ball and Laser Tag. Enjoy Nature And Wildlife At Huntley Meadows Park

Huntley Meadows Park, the largest park operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority is located in the Hybla Valley area of Fairfax County, Virginia, south of the city of Alexandria. Huntley Meadows Park is a well managed 1500 acre wetland in Fairfax County. Twenty years ago beavers dammed a small creek flowing through some forested land donated by the US to Fairfax County. The pond they created attracted wildfowl, turtles, snakes, and the like. Fairfax built a boardwalk and visitor center and the park became quite popular. Over the years silt from developments in the area filled up the wetlands and much of the fauna departed. Last year a major restoration of the park was completed and the results are fantastic. Wildfowl and beavers are back in droves and are easy to watch. Continue reading

‘Little Red Riding Hood & the Power Mutants’ Presented By Chantilly High School

Chantilly High School has presented a funny, family-friendly’ children’s show named as ‘Little Red Riding Hood & the Power Mutants.’ The show was written by the former, longtime theater director of Chantilly High School, Ed Monk. The show was presented on Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 11, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m. Tickets for the show cost $5.

Oakton-based Northern Virginia Family Service Raises $695,000 Through 2019 Road to Independence Gala

Northern Virginia Family Service Road to Independence Gala was held on May 10 at the Hilton McLean in Tysons Corner. The gala was attended by Northern Virginia government officials and business leaders along with 600 people. $695,000 were raised through annual fundraising dinner and auction. The proceeds will support  NVFS signature programs that provide housing, food, job training, education and mental health counseling to Northern Virginia families who are on the road to independence.
