Nancy J Lee Recreation Center: A Home Away From Home

The Nancy J Lee Recreation Center located at 1108 Jefferson Street is Alexandria. The center which is 14.6 acres is named in honor of the late Nannie J Lee, a community activist who was instrumental in the development of recreational activities for children in southwest Alexandria. The recreation center features a multipurpose room, a gymnasium, Reading Lounge and Crafts with athletic fields such as tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, football fields and little league softball/baseball fields. The center also features a playground with sitting area for toddler and kids up to 12 years to enjoy. The playground comprises of slides, rock climbing structures and swinging bars with rubberized obstacle course. Learn More About Beach Park In Alexandria

Beach Park is a 1.42 acres neighborhood park located at 201 Rucker Place in Alexandria. In the early 1970s the park was named in the honor of school principal Lillian Beach and has since been adopted by the Rosemont Citizens' Association. The park features an open lawn area with seating and a playground for the kids with a slope which is used for sledding during the winter months. It is home to many oak trees, maple trees, dogwoods and locust trees. The park is a popular place for residents of the area to meet and socialize and it is the venue for the hosting of annual Rosemont Citizens Association events. Continue reading

It's the summer and there is no greater way to spend time with your family and friends than at one of Alexandria's outdoor movie viewings. Grab your blankets and visit one of these outdoor movie viewings in Alexandria:
  • Cinema Del Ray - this outdoor event is free of charge and movie viewing takes place on the field of the Mount Vernon Recreation Center located at the intersection of Mount Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues.
  • Movies on the Potomac - there is nothing like enjoying a movie while on the waterfront. Movie viewings are shown at National Harbor on Sunday and Thursday evenings. Family movies are shown on Sundays at 6 pm while Date Night Movies are shown on Thursday at 7 pm.
  • Saturday Cinema Series - this outdoor movie viewing is hosted by the Carlyle Council and it takes place on select Saturdays during the summer in the Carlyle neighborhood.

Take A Break From The Summer Heat By Cooling Down At Old Town Pool In Alexandria

Old Town Pool is located a 2.71 acres multipurpose facility located at 1609 Cameron Street in Alexandria. The area features a 25 yard lap pool with diving well and an handicap accessible training pool combined with a basketball court, picnic area and a playground for the kids to enjoy before or after swimming. The Old Town Pool is adjacent to the Durant Recreation Center located to the east and Buchanan Park located to the north. This pool is the only one located in Old Town Alexandria. What Is At Chambliss Park?

Chambliss Park is a 8.16 acres neighborhood park located at 2505 North Chambliss Street on the west end of Alexandria. The park is adjacent to Dora Kelly Park and John Adams Elementary School. The park is a popular place for persons to walk their dogs, play tennis, go sledding during the winter and to play baseball. The park features a wooded nature area with a foot path that leads to Dora Kelly Nature Park. The park is open on a daily basis for everyone to come and enjoy. Continue reading
