The Brookvalley Park which is located at 5599 Holmes Run Parkway in Alexandria is a 22 acre regional park which features the Bicentennial Tree, the oldest tree in Alexandria. The park is a natural habitat to many species of animals and its a great area for dog owners to bring their dogs for playtime and exercise. Brookvalley Park also features garden plots, playground area, picnic areas and walking/bicycle trail. Garden plots can be rented from the 4-H Club which falls under the Department of Recreational, Parks and Cultural Activities. The Holmes Run Trail runs north through the park while All Veterans Park is located southwest with Tarleton Park located southeast of the park. Stabler Leadbeater Apothecary Museum The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum was established in 1939 after the bankruptcy of the family business The Stabler Leadbeater Apothecary. The museum is located at the original site of the family business at 105-107 S. Fairfax Street in Old Town Alexandria. The family business was founded in 1792 by Edward Stabler who operated at the location until 1933 when competition and new regulations forced the company into bankruptcy. After the bankruptcy the Landmarks Society of Alexandria acquired the property and turned it into a museum for the preservation of the items which were used during the business. Continue reading
