Chantilly’s Juanita Brill celebrated her 100th birthday on June 19 with her family and balloons. Brill was born and raised in Arkansas. She moved to Washington, D.C., during WWII. After the war, she met and married Russell Brill, and they raised their family in Silver Spring, Md. Juanita now lives in Chantilly. Continue reading
The 130th anniversary of the laying of its cornerstone on May 23, 1890, was celebrated by Smith Chapel Methodist Church congregation with celebratory wishes to the community. Pastor Ho Kang arranged the giant birthday card in front of the church to mark the occasion. Because of Covid-19, church members are worshiping remotely via zoom technology every week. Retired Air Force Col. Robert A. Shawn of Herndon recently turned 100 years old. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Loudoun County Post #1177. Shawn's comrades at the Post could not let one of their fellow defenders of freedom go without recognition on his momentous day, COVID-19 or not.
