A Pedestrian’s Perspective: From the Parkway to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge

Looking for a peaceful place to travel to get out of the house? All along the George Washington Parkway stretches a path  that goes  all the way to Washington DC. This distance is frequented by people going at their own pace - from the high speed bicyclist commuter to the power walking local. On the way there are places to picnic / barbeque, waters to fish, and open fields for recreation. An often overlooked detour is available just before Old Town Alexandria. By taking a pedestrian path onto the Woodrow Wilson Bridge there is a path that hugs the road until arriving at the National Harbor.  It starts with a view of a graveyard. Then the panorama delivers a waterfront city skyline juxtapositioned with vehicles driving across the bridge. Finally after passing the bridge there is a place to sit and enjoy the view, or continue to the National Harbor. Round trip its worth the effort.

What is my favorite place to video?

A zoomed in close up on ducks in the Potomac River
I like to film locations near the Potomac River in Northern Virginia. For example, the waterfront is scenic. I like to see through the camera the rippling water and the distant lands. An advantage to filming near the Potomac River is the peacefulness. Additionally nearby amenities can create for a good clip. I like to shoot the trail and capture the image of modern day America, as seen from a bipod stabilizing the  camera. Showcasing the liveliness of people and the civilization is fun. Also, Real Estate can be easier to show the uniformity of a tract. Next I proceed to walk and explore the expanse while keeping ready the camera for an opportunity. This could be a well kept neighborhood, such as Belle View. Then the area is traversed to see the Real Estate, amenities, geography, and so on. The more shots captured, the better luck at a video with replay value. Combining a series of short clips into a short video is relaxing. In hindsight, say years later, it can be amazing to see what once was and what is the current view of the land, as of today. Rewatching a video can help to understand what might have been missed on the first walk through. A published video is nice to watch.

Record Fair at the Artisphere

A Record Fair was held at the Artisphere. Vendors and consumers gathered for this day long activity. At the midway point, there was a film screening. Afterwards, the director of the movie had a question and answer session with the audience. Ian Mackaye was in attendance.

Rosslyn is located in the northeastern corner of Arlington County, north of Arlington National Cemetery and directly across the Potomac River from Georgetown in Washington, D.C. The numerous high-rise buildings of Rosslyn appears (in some ways) more urban than nearby Washington.

Added to the mix are new condominiums, lively restaurants and exciting shops, all with easy access to Washington and close-in proximity to Interstate-395, the Pentagon and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Music Galore at Record and Tape Exchange in Fairfax

As a hobbyist, I researched record stores in Northern Virginia and came

across Record and Tape Exchange (RTX). After a short drive past the Annandale campus of Nova Community College (NVCC), I found RTX located at 9448 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22031, in the Pickett Shopping Center. With students, collectors, and music enthusiasts in mind, RTX buys, sells, and trades a variety of items including college text books, records, CDs, cassettes, and DVDs. Inside  RTX, I found that there shelves were filled with enough options for me to pour an hour or so into looking for that special record, while enjoying the stores PA sound system, which was playing a hissing and crackling blues album.
