1940 ,George Washington Birthday Parade on the 1100 block of King St. Alexandria Va.
President's Day is fast approaching. The holiday of President's Day occurs on or about the birthday of George Washington, our first President, and resident of Mount Vernon VA.
There are a number of fascinating details in the picture above from 1940. The police uniforms have changed so very much since that day. Although many of the buildings survive, many of the businesses did not. For example folks don't by Stetson Hats like they used to. Here's the same location today.

Most of the bars and restaurants in Old TownAlexandria are located on Union St. and King St. There are a few that aren't on King St. or Union St. like Overwood for example, which is on North Lee. The restaurants and bars in Old Town Alexandria feature a wide spectrum of cuisines and atmospheres. There are hole in the wall bars (O'Shaughnessy's pub), karoake bars (Flying Fish), bars on the water (Fish Market, Union Street Pub, Chadwick's), and everything in between.

The City of Alexandria's free King Street Trolley transports residents, visitors, and those who work in Old Town, between the King Street Metrorail Station and the Potomac River waterfront. The free trolley operates along the one-and-a-half mile route seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. providing access to accommodations, dining, entertainment and shopping. The free trolley departs from the Potomac River Waterfront and from the King Street Metro every :10, :30, and :50 minutes after each hour. Every 20 minutes riders can board at any of the 20 stops along King Street.
