West End is the fastest growing area in the City of Alexandria. West End has a street hierarchy filled with cul-de-sacs and winding roads. The high-density residential area of West End is called Landmark due to the nearby Landmark Mall. Shopping malls and shops are also concentrated in this area.
Whether you are looking for authentic cuisine or a piece of the Civil War history, you can find it in West End, Alexandria. Typically, you can find single family and townhouses on side streets and corners that you wouldn't expect to be there. If you are in search of highly desirable and stately homes, head over to Seminary Road.
If you are looking for properties that have been recently developed but still maintain the architecture of Old Town, you may consider the area near Cameron Station. The Cameron Station area is relatively close to Old Town and Landmark Mall.
Shirley Highway is another name for Interstate 395. The I-395 corridor doesn't have Metro train service, but it carries a massive load of traffic nonetheless. In addition to its 8 to 10 lanes of traffic, 395 has an extra 3 lanes of HOV that switch direction depending on the hour of the day. It is THE major artery from Virginia into the District of Columbia.
395 leaves DC between the Pentagon and Crystal City (both in Arlington) and on the way out to I-95 and the Beltway at Springfield, I-395 passes Shirlington, Landmark, West End Alexandria and other neighborhoods. Traffic on 395 is nearly always heavy but usually slows only during rush hour.

Alexandria’s “grandest” home, built in 1752. In 1755, five British governors met here to discuss the French and Indian War. They proposed taxation without representation which sparked the American Revolution.
Now a museum, the most cherished possession is a seven-foot handpumper purchased by George Washington for four hundred dollars.
Retaining it’s cobblestone street is Captains Row in the 100 block of Prince Street. Many captains’ lived here during the era of tall sailing ships.

The land for Christ Church was given by the Alexander family. Construction began in 1767 and was completed in 1773. George Washington owned a pew and Robert E. Lee was confirmed here. Colonel James Wren of Falls Church was the Architect.
