FCPS To Have Test-To-Stay Program

Virginia’s largest public school system will change COVID-19 quarantine requirements in the New Year. Fairfax County Public Schools has been accepted into a test-to-stay pilot program run by the Virginia Department of Health, starting in January, according to a news release. Under the test-to-stay guidance, students deemed close contacts of other students who have tested positive for COVID-19 can continue in-person classes if they continue to test negative. The school system said the policy aims to prevent excessive quarantine times for students deemed close contacts. Continue reading

FCPS To Return To Five Days Of In-Person Learning

Fairfax County Public Schools will be returning five days a week of in-person learning in the fall. The school division said it used its “safe, steady, ready” approach to successfully transition eight cohorts of students and staff across all grade levels to in-person instruction. By March 19, more than 109,000 students will have returned for in-person learning, while keeping in-school COVID-19 transmission rates low.Continue reading

Outstanding Teachers Recognized By West Springfield Rotary Club

At its virtual meeting on Jan. 27, the West Springfield Rotary Club honored three outstanding teachers: Jen Shaddrix from Orange Hunt Elementary School, Lauren Ryan from Keene Mill Elementary School, and Joanne Lewenhaupt from Nativity Elementary School. Volunteers Collect Supplies For The Students To Home-School

Lorton Community Action Center has taken a new twist on the back to school drive this year due to the plans for the coming school year and the pandemic. Volunteers are out collecting school supplies, but for now, they are getting supplies for the students to home-school, and when the school officials make the decision to go back to the classroom, there will be another load of supplies for the classroom.Continue reading
