Housed in the historic Maury School since 1976, Arlington Arts Center presents artworks from regional artists in the Mid-Atlantic states. At 17,000 square feet with nine gallery spaces, working studios for 12 artists, and 2 classrooms, it is one of the largest non-federal venues for contemporary art in the Washington metropolitan area.
The Arlington Art Center
I found out about the Art Center through a friend and decided to drop by there one Saturday. The Center is conveniently located about a block Virginia Square Metro Station. The two-story symmetrical building is exquisite with stained-glass windows. The opening I went to was an interesting show that had attracted a young professional crowd, which is understandable considering the surrounding neighborhood.
The Art Center serves as a launching pad for emerging artists and provides established artists with an avenue to showcase their work. The center hosts a lot of family-friendly events and even offers art classes for adults, teens, and children who wish to explore or sharpen their artistic side. The teachers are professional artists and many of them have achieved the highest degrees in their fields.
Arlington Arts Center also hosts themed shows, usually twice per year, that brings in a diverse range of accomplished artist from the regional, national, and even international arena to Arlington. The shows attract the attention of local arts publications, writers, and bloggers.
