Streetlamps In Alexandria To Be Replaced By LED Lights

The streets of the City of Alexandria will now be brighter as streetlamps are now being replaced with LED lights. The project, which will be done by the city's traffic operations team in partnership will Dominion Energy will see 2,500 streetlamps being changed into LED lights. The use of LED lights will reduce energy consumption, save money, burn brighter and reduce maintenance costs for the City. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2020.

Alexandria Nominated For World’s Best Awards in Travel + Leisure Magazine

The City of Alexandria is once again in the spotlight for its historical nature and beautiful architectures as it has been nominated for Travel + Leisure Magazine's Worlds Best Awards for 2020.  The city has been nominated in the cities category while Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa in Old Town has been nominated in the hotels category. Alexandria Public Schools Receive Full Accreditation

For the first time in 20 years all public schools in Alexandria have full received accreditation. The Jefferson Houston School and T.C. Williams High School, the lone schools who did not meet accreditation standards became the new additions to the group following a release by the Virginia Department of Education. Full accreditation means that the schools meet or exceed state standards or have shown at least sufficient improvement. Superintendent Gregory C Hutchins stated that "this kind of success doesn't happen by chance nor does it happen overnight." Butterfly Effect Mural Raises $10,000 In Donations

The Butterfly Effect Mural which was painted near the intersection of king and north Patrick streets have raised over $10,000 in donations for non profit organizations. The mural which was created by Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker in partnership with artist Tasha Wahl, ACT for Alexandria, Asana Partners and Bloomers has garnered attention from many residents who use their social media to donate to these non profit organizations. Block.one To Set New Headquarters In Arlington And Create 170 New Jobs

Block.one, a provider of blockchain software, is set to establish its headquarters in Arlington County. According to Gov. Ralph Northam, Block.one will invest $10 million for the project which will bring about 170 new jobs over a period of three years. Virginia had successfully competed with Washington, D.C. for this million-dollar project.
