6 Things To Do In Arlington

  1. Arlington Loop. This paved 16.5-mile loop runs along with four of the most popular trails in Arlington. It takes cyclists, runners, and walkers on a route along the Potomac River past Reagan National Airport; through the shady Four Mile Run and W&OD trails, which traverse many of Arlington County’s parks; and down the Custis Trail into Rosslyn.

  2. Bon Air Memorial Rose Garden. The Arlington Rose Foundation established these formal gardens as a living memorial to Arlingtonians who lost their lives in World War II. The garden which is often a site for wedding photos contains 135 different rose varieties and 2,500 plants. There are also playgrounds, sports courts, and picnic areas.
  3. Salon Arlington. Founded by an Arlington's resident Mike Chapman, Salon Arlington provides a venue for artists, authors, craftspeople, and musicians to present their work in a casual, low-pressure setting. He hosts the salons every two months with his friend Dawn Hart at her Village Sweet bakery in the Westover neighborhood. After 15 gatherings, it has now become so popular that the $15 tickets sell out.
  4. Salsa Room. Salsa dancers and DJ come all the way from Italy, Spain, and South America to perform in this huge dance hall, which can hold up to 600.  For those interested in learning salsa, the club holds evening lessons for all skill levels Wednesday through Saturday, just before the late-night crowd arrives. 2619 Columbia Pike.
  5. Upton Hill Regional Park. This is the closest thing to an amusement park in Arlington County. The former Civil War lookout point, Upton Hill Regional Park includes two pools and water slides, an 18-hole mini-golf course, batting cages, a picnic pavilion, and hiking trails.
  6. U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial. Also known as the Iwo Jima memorial, this statue sets high on a bluff overlooking the DC monuments honors Marines who have died in battle. It recently underwent renovations thanks to the generous donation by billionaire David Rubenstein of more than $5 million.
