Approximately 15,000 Alexandria residents live below the poverty line and food hardship is a common issue faced by many of these residents. This is the reason why in 2019 Fontaine Caffe & Creperie donated about 250 gallons of its 100% vegan soup and thousands of baguettes to the meals program at Meade Memorial Episcopal Church on North Alfred Street.
The meals program caters to the homeless, unemployed and the underfed in Alexandria. Fontaine Caffe & Creperie has joined a group of businesses that are working to help fighr hunger in Alexandria. Executive Director of Volunteer Alexandria states that "restaurants in Alexandria can play a role in fighting hunger in Alexandria". Holy Cow in Del Ray, local grocery stores and farmers markets in Alexandria have all donated to Alexandria local charity ALIVE.
