Despite the financial struggles being faced by many residents of Alexandria, the city rallied to support 156 non profits organisations with a record breaking donation of $2.45 Million in 24 hours for Spring2ACTion - Alexandria's day of giving.
The Spring2ACTion annual event was pushed up further due to the increasing need of financial support for non profit organizations due to the coronavirus. The 10th annual online event had an increase of $386,455 compared to 2019. Heather Peeler, Act for Alexandria's CEO praised residents of Alexandria by stating that the city "continued the tradition of exceeding expectations during an extraordinary time".
Local businesses also supported the day by acting as business fundraisers where employees, clients and customers were rallied to contribute to organizations they love and to find new ones. Many business supported the city by offering deals at their establishments as well as donating a percentage of sales and cash prizes.
