She packed decorative treat boxes with specialties from snickerdoodle brownies to Oreo jewels and even rainbow pretzel bark. Leah Ning of Herndon has been recognized as one of twelve "writer winners" for her entry, “Yellow and Pink” in this year's international competition, the L. Significant Increase In Adoptions At A Fairfax County Animal Shelter

A shelter in Fairfax County has seen a significant increase in adoptions since stay-at-home orders were issued. Despite shutting down the shelter’s in-house operations last month, it has fielded more than 300 email requests since mid-March from people looking to adopt. Amanda Novotny, the communications and outreach manager at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter said, “It seems like things are happening every day. It was astounding to see this huge uptick in numbers. SLHS PTSA Food Pantry Distributes Food In Herndon And Reston

South Lakes High School in Reston has been shuttered due to COVID-19 but the school's PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) Food Pantry kept on working. The school's Principal Kim Retzer said, "Since the start of all of this, Food Pantry organizers have been planning how they can continue to support our community while adhering to health department guidelines for social distancing. The dedication of the volunteers, significantly limited for safety reasons, is nothing short of amazing. They tapped into the kindness of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Herndon to continue their amazing work of getting food to needy families." Continue reading
