The Freedom House Museum located at 1315 Duke St in Alexandria holds a very tragic story about slavery in Alexandria. The Museum was once the headquarters and holding pen for Franklin and Armfield, the largest domestic trading firm in the US. During the salve trade persons were bought and forced to the slave markets in Natchez, Mississippi and New Orleans by foot or by ship. The Museum is operated by the Office of Historic Alexandria. Rivergate City Park is located at 2 Montgomery Street in Old Town Alexandria. The 2.84 acres park is located on the banks of the Potomac River which makes the park a part of the system of linear parks along Alexandria's waterfront. Rivergate Cit Park is closely located near Oronoco Bay Park and Montgomery Park with many restaurants and residential buildings in close proximity. Residents living within the proximity of the area visit the park to sit and enjoy the scenic views from the waterfront. There is also a picnic area located at the park along with a sand court which is used for volleyball playing. Rivergate City Park is owned by the Rivergate Owners Association. Continue reading
The Annual Birthday Celebrations of the United States and the City of Alexandria will be held at Oronoco Bay Park on the Potomac Waterfront at 100 Madison Street Alexandria on July 13 from 6 pm to 10 pm. The event will mark the 243rd birthday of the United States and the 270th birthday of the City of Alexandria.

The Brookvalley Park which is located at 5599 Holmes Run Parkway in Alexandria is a 22 acre regional park which features the Bicentennial Tree, the oldest tree in Alexandria. The park is a natural habitat to many species of animals and its a great area for dog owners to bring their dogs for playtime and exercise. Brookvalley Park also features garden plots, playground area, picnic areas and walking/bicycle trail. Garden plots can be rented from the 4-H Club which falls under the Department of Recreational, Parks and Cultural Activities. The Holmes Run Trail runs north through the park while All Veterans Park is located southwest with Tarleton Park located southeast of the park.
