The 11th Annual Del Ray Music Festival will be held on July 14 from 3 pm to 8 pm at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square located at the intersection of Mount Vernon Avenue and Oxford Avenue in Del Ray Alexandria. The Annual Event celebrates the diverse and local musical talents  in the Washington DC area This year's event will feature live music from local musicians who will be performing on two stages: Pat Miller Neighborhood Square and Bean Creative Stage. Food and refreshments will be provided by some of Alexandria's top restaurants with pop-up beer gardens to be provided by seven of Del Ray's top Restaurants. 17th Annual Alexandria King Street Art Festival To Held In Old Town Alexandria

The 17th Annual Alexandria King Street Art Festival will be held on Saturday September 21st and Sunday September 22nd at 220 King Street in Old Town Alexandria. The historic King Street will be transformed into a world class outdoor art gallery where art lovers can come and discover spectacular paintings, life size sculptures, jewelry, photography, ceramics and more. The annual event will feature festival booths lined along King Street between Washington and Union Street with over six blocks of artwork by more than 200 artists from the US and abroad. Why Goat Hill Park In Alexandria?

Goat Hill Park is a 2.5 acres park which is located at 33 Kennedy Street in Alexandria. The small park was dedicated to the City of Alexandria in 1953 and has since been adopted by the Warwick Village Citizens' Association. The park which is located within the Warwick Village residential neighborhood features three different areas: a playground with standard equipment and rubberized surface which is perfect for the kids from ages 5-10 to enjoy, a natural wooded area and an open lawn that is used for relaxation and blanket picnics. Interesting Facts About Contrabands And Freedmen Cemetery Memorial In Alexandria.

Black statue The Contrabands and Freedmen Cemetery Memorial was established in 2014 at 1001 S Washington Street Alexandria. In 1864 Superintendent of Contrabands declared that the site be used as a cemetery due to the numerous death of many African Americans who fled to Alexandria after escaping from the Civil War. The burial of many African American troops was later moved to the Alexandria National Cemetery and as such the last burial at Contrabands and Freedmen Cemetery was done in January 1869. Why Chinquapin Park and Recreational Center?

Chinquapin Park is a 52.89 acres park located at 3210 King Street. The park which was named for the Chinquapin Oak Tree was once known as Chinquapin Village, a war housing development which was built by the government for Torpedo Factory workers. Even though the area has now been developed into a park there are still areas which are reminiscent of the Chinquapin neighborhood.  In 1961 the City of Alexandria acquired the property and proposed the building of a mini amusement park. In 1971 the park was opened by former Mayor Charles E Beatley. The Recreation Center located on the site was opened in 1986. Continue reading

Gadsby's Tavern Museum located at 134 N Royal Street Alexandria is one of the city's must visit historic museum.  The museum which consists of the c. 1785 tavern and the 1792 City Hotel was operated by Mr John Gadsby from 1796 to 1808. The tavern was once an area used for dancing assemblies, theatrical and musical performances as well as meetings of local organizations. The Ballroom of the Tavern hosted George Washington's Birth night Ball and Thomas Jefferson's Inaugural Banquet. The Athenaeum was once the Bank of the Old Dominion now turned art gallery. Over the years the building has been home to various businesses before being purchased by the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association in 1964 and turned into its current state, an art gallery.
