Visit Founders Park In Old Town Alexandria

Founders Park is a peaceful riverside park located in Old Town Alexandria. The park was once called West Point in the early 1700s and was the first settlement site for the Europeans in Alexandria. The site was once used an industrial area for the building of a warehouse before becoming a storage area for tobacco, a landing point for African slaves and a fish town. The site was then considered for the development of a townhouse complex which was never developed due to residents of the other surrounding neighborhood wanting to convert the site into a public park. The site was officially called Founders Park in 1978 before being purchased by the City of Alexandria in 1981. Continue reading

Beach Park is a 1.42 acres neighborhood park located at 201 Rucker Place in Alexandria. In the early 1970s the park was named in the honor of school principal Lillian Beach and has since been adopted by the Rosemont Citizens' Association. The park features an open lawn area with seating and a playground for the kids with a slope which is used for sledding during the winter months. It is home to many oak trees, maple trees, dogwoods and locust trees. Chambliss Park is a 8.16 acres neighborhood park located at 2505 North Chambliss Street on the west end of Alexandria. The park is adjacent to Dora Kelly Park and John Adams Elementary School. The park is a popular place for persons to walk their dogs, play tennis, go sledding during the winter and to play baseball. Joseph Hensley Park is a 21.66 acres park named in honor of the late Joseph Hensley, a former Director of the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities in Alexandria. The park is located at 4200 Eisenhower Avenue and features facilities for everyone to enjoy. The park features softball fields, soccer field, picnic area and a park shelter with grill. It is used by the Adult Sports Leagues, the Bishop Ireton Varsity and Junior Varsity Softball Teams as well as the Alexandria Soccer Association.
