Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden To Host 4th Speakeasy Fundraiser in Alexandria

The Lee-Fendall House Museum & Garden located at 614 Oronoco Street in Old Town Alexandria will host its 4th fundraiser event on September 14th. The event dubbed Sips & Secrets: A Speakeasy Night will celebrate the house's Prohibition-era history. The event will be held from 7 pm to 10 pm and attendees will be able to enjoy 1920s-style drinks while dancing the night away to live jazz music and ragtime. Attendees will also be treated to dance and costume contests and be able to win great prizes in a silent auction by local Alexandria businesses. A pre-reception will be held for VIP members which will include an exclusive liquor tasting and a tour of the house. A Must Attend Summer Event In Old Town – Old Town Beer, Wine And Dog Festival

Old Town Alexandria will come alive on August 17th with the hosting of the Old Town Beer, Wine and Dog Festival. The event which will be held at the Waterfront Park will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The goal of the festival "is to provide an alternative to the typical adoption procedure by combining food, drinks and dogs in a social environment". The festival will see guests trying local beer, wine and food enjoying live music and playing activities with dogs. Patrons attending the event without a dog can enjoy activities with the sheltered or fostered dogs who will be on location looking for a new home. The dogs will be able to run loose in a fenced area with tents, water bowls and ice baths for them to enjoy. Nancy J Lee Recreation Center: A Home Away From Home

The Nancy J Lee Recreation Center located at 1108 Jefferson Street is Alexandria. The center which is 14.6 acres is named in honor of the late Nannie J Lee, a community activist who was instrumental in the development of recreational activities for children in southwest Alexandria. The recreation center features a multipurpose room, a gymnasium, Reading Lounge and Crafts with athletic fields such as tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, football fields and little league softball/baseball fields. The center also features a playground with sitting area for toddler and kids up to 12 years to enjoy. The playground comprises of slides, rock climbing structures and swinging bars with rubberized obstacle course. Beach Park is a 1.42 acres neighborhood park located at 201 Rucker Place in Alexandria. In the early 1970s the park was named in the honor of school principal Lillian Beach and has since been adopted by the Rosemont Citizens' Association. The park features an open lawn area with seating and a playground for the kids with a slope which is used for sledding during the winter months. It is home to many oak trees, maple trees, dogwoods and locust trees.
