Support Alexandria Charities On Giving Tuesday 2019

Today is Giving Tuesday 2019 and residents of the City are encouraged to give back to charities across Alexandria. Started in 2012, Giving Tuesday was aimed at promoting charitable giving during the Christmas season. On this day residents can make a monetary donation or volunteer skilled services. In Alexandria, residents can donate/volunteer to some of these non profit organizations:

Butterfly Effect Mural Raises $10,000 In Donations

The Butterfly Effect Mural which was painted near the intersection of king and north Patrick streets have raised over $10,000 in donations for non profit organizations. The mural which was created by Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker in partnership with artist Tasha Wahl, ACT for Alexandria, Asana Partners and Bloomers has garnered attention from many residents who use their social media to donate to these non profit organizations. Shoppers In McLean Donate Nearly 1500 Pounds Of Food During ‘Stuff The Bus” Event

A non-profit organization named SHARE Inc. held a collection event at Giant Food Store in McLean on Saturday. The collection event was named "Stuff The Bus". The shoppers donated 1,468 pounds of food, $1,097 of cash and $175 worth of gift cards. SHARE provides emergency assistance to local families and the collected items will be donated to the families in need.  Fairfax County Office of Public-Private Partnerships also contributed to the organization of the event.
