The Nancy J Lee Recreation Center located at 1108 Jefferson Street is Alexandria. The center which is 14.6 acres is named in honor of the late Nannie J Lee, a community activist who was instrumental in the development of recreational activities for children in southwest Alexandria. The recreation center features a multipurpose room, a gymnasium, Reading Lounge and Crafts with athletic fields such as tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, football fields and little league softball/baseball fields. The center also features a playground with sitting area for toddler and kids up to 12 years to enjoy. The playground comprises of slides, rock climbing structures and swinging bars with rubberized obstacle course. The George Washington RECenter in Alexandria provides residents with plenty of ways to exercise indoors and outdoors. In addition to a fitness area with exercise bikes and two treadmills, the center has lighted tennis courts and a picnic area. Saunas, showers and fully equipped locker rooms are also available for use.
For the aquatically inclined, the center features an indoor heated 25-meter pool, complete with a poolside spa, a diving board and a beach/wading area. Swimmers will also enjoy water aerobics classes and private and public swimming lessons. Also, water exercise equipment is available for the public.
The center is located at 8426 Old Mt. Vernon Road in Alexandria. To get to the center, take exit 177A (Route 1) from the Beltway. 100 Acre Stream Valley - Joseph Plaskett Park
In the North section of the community lies an existing 100-acre Stream Valley Park. In 1999 the park was dedicated to the founder of Lorton, Joseph Plaskett. This park consists of a wooded walking / biking trail that extends through both ends of the park and the Pohick River which winds its way through the community.

Two outdoor swimming pools, sundecks and bath facilities, located in the North and South sections of the community.
Community Recreation Center
Located at the North pool and is the location where committee and board meetings occur. The clubhouse was designed to resemble a train station and provides a warm, rich setting for small parties and gatherings. The rental fee is $350.
Lorton VRE Station
Lorton Station has its very own Virginia Railway Express (VRE) train stop. This convenience makes Lorton Station a very desireable community.
