Alexandria Seniors Among Winners Of National Merit Scholarships

Two Alexandria students are among the winners of a 2,500 National Merit Scholarship for 2020. Jessica Lopez of St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School and Leah Nickelsburg of T.C. Williams both received the one time scholarships to use at any regionally accredited US college or university. The students were chosen based on a selection process which started with the 2018 PSAT. T.C. Williams High School Seniors Win Prestigious Scholarships

Two seniors at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria are feeling ecstatic and grateful after winning the prestigious Posse Foundation scholarships worth $250,000. Seniors Wilmer Carranza and Madeleine Allen who will be attending college this fall will have their tuition costs covered after they were awarded the scholarships at a ceremony held in Washington D.C. Wilmer and Madeleine will both be looking to major in Computer Science at Lafayette College and University of Wisconsin-Madison respectively. Continue reading

Students At Alexandria High School Gets Lunch Debt Payoff

Negative school lunch balances are now gone at Alexandria's T.C. Williams High School after a generous donation from Jay and Arline Hoffman of the Hoffman Company. The lunch debt of $18,500 was fully cleared off by the couple which meant that the school no longer had negative balances on school lunches. Continue reading

Alexandria Public Schools Receive Full Accreditation

For the first time in 20 years all public schools in Alexandria have full received accreditation. The Jefferson Houston School and T.C. Williams High School, the lone schools who did not meet accreditation standards became the new additions to the group following a release by the Virginia Department of Education. Full accreditation means that the schools meet or exceed state standards or have shown at least sufficient improvement. Superintendent Gregory C Hutchins stated that "this kind of success doesn't happen by chance nor does it happen overnight."
