Herndon Town Council hosted a Panel Discussion on Housing Tues., Jan. 5 to build proficiency and understanding in matters related to housing policy development. According to a press release, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology partnered with Engineering Tomorrow, a national STEM nonprofit, to bring one of Engineering Tomorrow's free real-world, hands-on STEM labs on Phototherapy into their classroom with a focus on facts and data-driven results, process skills, root cause mentality, being detailed oriented, and execution focus. National Council For Adoption Honors McLean Couple

The National Council for Adoption (NCFA) in Alexandria, a leading voice among national adoption and child welfare organizations, announced Dr. Wayne Winston Sharp, Ph.D. of McLean, and his wife Linda Whitbeck Sharp the recipients of NCFA's The Ruby Lee Piester Adoption Award. City Council Hears Plans For Sunrise Senior Living Facility

Sunrise Senior Living is considering building a facility in the City of Fairfax. The Fairfax City Council heard about the proposal during a pre-application discussion, Monday, Jan. 5. The City’s Senior Planner, Albert Frederick, made the presentation at the Council’s work session. He said the five-story building would be about 75 feet high, with below-ground, structured parking, plus some surface parking, for more than 150 total spaces. Continue reading

Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Progresses Towards Completion

You can see progress toward completion of the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial while visiting Occoquan Regional Park, Lorton. Replica White House gates, statuary, pavement, and the main sign marker are now visible upon reaching the area opposite the park’s main event building. When completed, tentatively this spring, the memorial, with statuary and garden, will honor suffragists and their success in gaining women’s right to vote in 1917. Continue reading

Reston’s 1901 Group Acquired By Leidos

Reston, Virginia-based Leidos Holdings has completed its $215 million acquisition of Reston-based IT services company 1901 Group. 1901 Group’s 400 employees will join the group as a result of the acquisition. 1901 Group was founded in 2009. The company’s name is a reference to the year 1901 when automation of the assembly line was invented — factory floor principles it says are the foundation of its IT enterprise modernization services.
