Old Town Pool is located a 2.71 acres multipurpose facility located at 1609 Cameron Street in Alexandria. The area features a 25 yard lap pool with diving well and an handicap accessible training pool combined with a basketball court, picnic area and a playground for the kids to enjoy before or after swimming. The Old Town Pool is adjacent to the Durant Recreation Center located to the east and Buchanan Park located to the north. This pool is the only one located in Old Town Alexandria. Learn More About Trucks At The Annual Tons Of Truck Event In Alexandria.

The City of Alexandria will come alive on July 20 2019 as the Annual Tons Of Truck event takes place at Chinquapin Park and Forest Park, 3210 King Street Alexandria. The event will take place 10 am to 1 pm and will feature over 20 City vehicles on display. Patrons at the event will get the opportunity to explore and get behind the wheel of fire trucks, front end loader, dump truck, bucket truck, trash truck as well as bus and police cars. Persons can meet and greet with the personnel who have built and maintained the vehicles. The Potomac Yard Park is a 23.4 acre neighborhood park located at 2501 Potomac Ave in Alexandria. The park was designed and constructed through a partnership between the Alexandria City Council and Pulte Homes. The park features picnic tables and pathways with ADA accessibility, outdoor stage area for the hosting of special events, Stormwater Management Ponds, Walking/Bicycle trails and passive seating areas with historical interpretations. Celebrate Art At The Del Ray’s Annual Art On The Avenue Festival

Del Ray's Annual Art on the Avenue Festival will be held on Mount Vernon Avenue in Del Ray on October 5 from 10 am to 6 pm. The annual festival which is held on the first Saturday in October celebrates the community's diversity through the arts. The festival hosts over 300 artists from jewelers, woodworkers, pottery akers, soap crafters, glass makers and sculptures. Live music will be provided on five stages with music from Irish, folk, rock n roll country and more. Food vendors from local restaurants will be on sale right through the festival. Patrons (kids and adults) at the festival can participate in the annual pie eating contest which will be held near the Festival Store with 100% proceeds going to the non profit organization Kelley Cares. Old Town Historic Property The George Is Set To Open As An Airbnb In Alexandria

The George, a newly renovated historic property in Old Town with ties to President Washington is set to open as an Airbnb property in mid-July. The property located at 506 Cameron Street was originally built in 1815 with its kitchen reportedly a part of George Washington's property at 508 Cameron Street. The property which was purchased and renovated by residents Steven and Martha Peterson features 8 bedrooms each with their own bathroom,  living room, dining room, kitchen and patio. In addition to being used as an Airbnb the property will serve as a venue for the hosting of cooking classes with chefs from local restaurants. Virginia Tech’s FutureHAUS Opens Near Potomac Yard In Alexandria

Virginia Tech's project FutureHAUS has opened for display near the future home of Virginia Tech Innovation Campus, Potomac Yard. The house is located at 2602 Main Line Blvd and is open for viewing until August 16. The 900 sq ft home which won the first prize at the 2018 Solar Decathlon Middle East is completely powdered by solar energy and is loaded with futuristic technology which was designed to accommodate aging in place and to adapt to a resident's specific needs.  The house is a product of many years of research and development by over 100 Virginia Tech students and faculty members. The FutureHAUS took three days to assemble and it comprises of 18 components which makes it easy to be transported anywhere. Inside the FutureHAUS visitors will feel like they are walking in a science fiction movie or an episode of the Jetsons. The floors contain sensors which cause the lights to turn on and off while the bedroom contains a 'smart mirror' that allows residents to mix and match clothes in their closet without physically trying them on. Some walls in the house are movable which allows residents to change the size of their rooms. All sinks in the house are adjustable to accommodate height differences and ages of residents. FutureHAUS is committed to address environmental concerns by using solar energy to power many of its devices. Carlyle Neighborhood Strives To Cement Its Place As One Of Alexandria’s Premier Neighborhoods.

The Carlyle Neighborhood has started to cement its place as one of Alexandria's Premier neighborhoods through its Carlyle Vitality Initiative. Carlyle is a 76 acre community which has seen an increase in the development of office buildings and residential complexes over the years. The area is home to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the National Science Foundation and the Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station. Residential complexes located in the neighborhood is home to nearly 3,000 residents with more expected in the coming years. The growth and development of Carlyle can be credited to the Carlyle Vitality Initiative, a city initiative which implements physical and experimental improvements in Carlyle. The Initiative was implemented as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office was relocating from Crystal City with the condition that the developer would contribute funds to future benefits of Carlyle neighborhood. The initiative was officially launched in 2016 and has since funded many events and signage throughout the neighborhood. The initiative brought about events such as happy hours, movie screenings and outdoor fitness classes. The Carlyle neighborhood will host its first ever block party during the summer with events such as Taste of Carlyle and holiday festivities to be held in September and December respectively. The Carlyle neighborhood has over the years flourished and will continue to do so through its Carlyle Vitality Initiative.
